As systems grow and evolve, performance may degrade unless actions are taken to modify the environment to accountfor the changes. As a best practice, and perhaps one of the basic but also more effective mechanisms for tuning, is theestablishment of a methodology to modify your system pools and buffers. This presentation targets a way to analyze IMSdatabase buffer usage as it directly impacts overall system performance. Beginning with the IMS monitor which isavailable to all systems, the first topic shows how to look at database buffering and a way to create a spreadsheet toprofile the environment. This method will then be compared against the use of tooling such as IMS Performance Analyzerwhich provides a deeper insight into the environment, and then concludes with another tool, IMS Buffer Pool Analyzer, which can provide recommendations on how buffer pools should be defined. This presentation, therefore, provides themechanisms to take the guess work out of efficient buffer performance.
