Mainframe components produce metrics far superior to those found on any other
platform. Unfortunately, there can be significant barriers to unleashing the
value of that SMF data, including complex interfaces, overwhelming data volumes,
and siloed tooling that inhibits collaboration and deters newer staff from
rapidly getting up to speed. Attend this session and see how IBM Z IntelliMagic
Vision for z/OS provides great visibility into SMF and RMF data across the Z
platform. As various metrics are being displayed, IBM and other industry experts
will provide a running “color commentary” on ways they have seen those metrics
leveraged to solve problems and enhance performance across many customer sites.
(So far Mark Rader (Db2 WSC) and Frank Kyne (Watson & Walker) are scheduled to
participate, check back to see others who will also join the adventure).
This session will be full of technical content across many Z disciplines
including z/OS, CICS, and Db2. Areas anticipated to be covered include:
- Leveraging automated assessments of key metrics to proactively direct your
attention to potential risks to availability and performance
- Ways dynamic navigation and context sensitive drill downs facilitate focused
analysis even with massive data volumes (e.g., Db2 Accounting (SMF 101), CICS
Transaction (SMF 110.1)
- Use cases illustrating how an integrated interface promotes collaboration by
providing visibility across SMF data types (e.g., WLM and CICS, Db2 and CICS)
- How topology views can visualize software and hardware architecture across
many components and connections
- Ways customized dashboards facilitate dynamic analysis and collaboration via
common shared views
