SQLite is a popular open-source database management system that is widely used
in the software industry. Despite being developed for use on small-scale
applications, SQLite has proven to be a versatile and reliable solution for
larger applications. One area where SQLite can offer unique benefits is in
mainframe environments, where traditional relational database systems such as
Db2 can be expensive and resource intensive. This presentation will explore the
benefits of using SQLite on z/OS. We will cover the basics of SQLite and its
capabilities, as well as the challenges and benefits of running SQLite on z/OS.
We will also discuss best practices for setting up and managing SQLite on z/OS,
including performance tuning, security considerations, and integration with
other mainframe applications. We will describe our own experiences implementing
SQLite in a z/OS product. Performance metrics of SQLite under real world
conditions will be shown including DASD and CPU usage. By the end of this
presentation, attendees will have a clear understanding of the advantages of
using SQLite on z/OS, and will be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed
to start implementing SQLite solutions in their own mainframe environments.
