Many z/OS applications implicitly make use of sysplex services by exploiting sysplex enabled software stacks (CICS, IMS, Db2, MQ, ...). But sometimes you want to eliminate the middleman and run on the bare metal, so to speak. So what are the base z/OS sysplex services available to applications? What are some of the underlying design principles to consider when developing an application that is 'sysplex aware' or 'sysplex enabled'? Join us for an overview of the services provided by the sysplex components of z/OS (XCF and XES). You'll leave with a solid grasp of what it takes to create a 'good' sysplex application (one that is available, scalable and resilient, ...) and the set of services that help you make it happen (instance management, communication, serialization, data sharing, ...). Since this is an introductory session, we will not dive into the details of the programming interfaces themselves. But this foundation of terminology and concepts will let you effectively make your way through the dense forest of detailed information planted in the z/OS MVS Programming: Sysplex Services books (Guide and Reference).
